Yeti 575 Buildout

Step 6: Installing the BB and CranksTruvative Stylo Cranks, Chainring and Bottom Bracket (BB) are ordered together as a single unit. A good set of cranks is worth the money, but the Carbon Fiber models can get quite expensive just to shave a few grams off of the weight. Mine are alloy. The right side pictured below screws into the frame in counter clockwise (CCW) fashion to tighten, while the left side uses standard threading. Incidentally, left and right are oriented as if you're sitting on the bike. BB cups should be torqued to 25 ft-lb. The Truvativ BB follows Shimano standard of 16-splines, and thus you will need a tool from Park or Pedros called a 16 Spline Outer Cup BB Socket (Park BBT-19). The Yeti BB Case is 73mm wide, thus you will not need the spacers which come with the cups. However, do leave the clear plastic housing inserted into the drive side cup while installing. This will keep debris and grime from the threads and from getting inside the frame later during use. My torque wrench only works in the CW direction, so there is no click when tightening the drive side cup. Instead, I made it snug, then moved to the left non-drive side cup and tightened it to spec, and then returned back to the drive side cup with that feel fresh in my head and tightened it to a similar feel. After the cups are tightened, fit the cranks and tighten the Left Crankarm Bolt to 35 ft-lb using a 8mm hex socket on your ratcheting torque wrench. Be sure when sliding the left crank onto the spindle splines that it is 180 degrees out of phase with the drive crank arm. This is common sense, but when the bike is on the stand, it's easy to forget and make the mistake of not aligning the cranks opposite one another. I have seen people overlook this in a hurry, only to notice once they get on the bike much later that the pedals are out of phase and off by a few degrees. You're done with this step.
